Mural & Beach Engagement Session | Laguna, CA

Earlier this summer, I photographed Shirley and Ron’s engagement session in Orange County. These two were college sweethearts that recently relocated to Southern California and wanted their engagement session to reflect the Southern California landscape as well as somewhere colorful. We decided on two locations for their shoot— first, murals outside of Laguna Beach Beer Company (they arrived early so we grabbed a beer and chatted before their session, which by the way was a lot of fun) and second, Victoria Beach.

The murals were vibrant and it complimented their outfits perfectly; the beach was overcast, but I loved how the water and the tower (Pirate Tower) looked in the background with the soft orange glow at sunset. Shirley and Ron were complete naturals in front of the camera and their session was laid-back and a filled with laughs, such as how we somehow went from walking along the shore to knee deep in water within a matter of seconds in the pursuit of getting photos with Pirate Tower in the background!

Congratulations again, Shirley and Ron! I can’t wait to capture your awesome wedding next year! Scroll below to see some of my favorites from their session…

Rolling Hills & Tall Grass Engagement Session | Riverside, CA

Tham & Mike’s love story started long before either of them knew it. They went to high school together and were friends, but after graduating high school and going off to college lost contact with each other.

Years later, they ran into each other at a mutual friend’s wedding and hit it off. They began dating. After a few years of dating, they bought their first home together.

On move-in day, Mike told Tham he had Tham’s set of house keys. As he reached into his pocket to present the keys, he pulled out an engagement ring and got down on one knee on the stairs of their new home and proposed. Tham was completely taken by surprise and thrilled- of course she said yes!

Tham contacted me a few months ago to schedule their engagement session and said she’d love somewhere hilly with tall grass.

I went out scouting and drove to a few different locations, but wasn’t finding the right setting. Just before going home and deciding to pick back up scouting the following day, I stopped by a park I hadn’t yet been to. I walked through the park and stumbled upon an entrance to part of a hiking trail. There were rolling hills, a massive rock formation and tall yellow grass that resembled wheat. I knew this would be a great spot for their session.

I photographed their engagement session on an overcast, chilly day, but luckily managed to finish their shoot just before it rained. We ran up hills, climbed rocks and had an awesome time during their session.

Tham & Mike-congratulations on your engagement! I had so much fun hanging out with you two!

Downtown Riverside Engagement Session | Riverside, CA

LaTisha and Robert first met at a gas station when LaTisha was checking the air pressure in her tires and Robert approached her to see if she needed help. They struck up a conversation, exchanged phone numbers, and instantly became friends. After a few months, they went on their first date and their friendship developed into a relationship. Fast forward about 5 years and they now engaged and planning their wedding.

They recently moved near the Riverside area and decided that downtown Riverside would be the perfect location for their engagement session because it has a lot of Spanish Mission architecture, much similar in style to the venue they’ll be getting married at next year.

When planning their engagement session, LaTisha asked if there was any way we could incorporate a gas station as one of their photo locations. Of course I said yes- I loved the sentiment of it and felt it would be a great way to tell their love story through photography!

Congratulations LaTisha and Robert! I had such a blast hanging out with you two!

Hot Air Balloon Engagement | Palm Springs, CA

Tania & Ankit met in their first year of medical school and are currently fulfilling their residency training. Although their schedules are crazy with overnight and multi-day shifts, Ankit wanted to plan the perfect surprise proposal for his wonderful girlfriend, Tania. This was no easy task as Ankit had to coordinate to swap shifts with other residents, but he managed to make it happen!

Ankit kept it a total secret until the day of the hot air balloon ride. He told Tania he had a surprise for her and to wear warm clothing as rain was expected later in the day. They arrived to the meeting location for the hot air ballon and met with myself and the balloon pilot. Neither Ankit or Tania had ever been on a hot air balloon before (nor has I). As the balloon was being inflated and the minutes neared for boarding, anxiety and excitement filled us all.

We then boarded the ballon, I engaged in small talk with Ankit and Tania, but primarily kept to myself and photographed scenery in an attempt to conceal the proposal nearing.

The balloon pilot announced that we would descend to have his staff member on the ground take a group photograph. As we descended, we saw his ground staff member. This member was holding a sign saying “Will you marry me”. Ankit asked Tania to look out to the sign, in which she gasped and and smiled ear to ear. Ankit proceeded to pull out a ring from his jacket pocket and got down on one knee to ask Tania to marry him. She immediately said yes, embraced him tightly, and showered him in kisses.

Tania then said “I feel on top of the world”. We all laughed at how literal and figurative it was— not to mention heartwarming. Ankit and Tania immediately started calling and Facetiming their loved ones to share the news.

It was such a beautiful and perfectly timed (rainstorms ensued later that day) proposal.

Something Homemade Branding Photoshoot | Rancho Santa Fe, CA

I recently did a branding photoshoot for Something Homemade, a catering company based in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The photoshoot took place in a private home which was a fitting location to match the look and feel of the company—cozy home cooked meals for private parties and events.

Something Homemade is owned and operated by Chef Keely Barrera. Keely’s dishes are made beautifully and thoughtfully. Every dish is made from scratch, never canned or processed.

I left the photo session with a tray of lovely baked goods from Keely. All were great, but I have to say her lemon bars in particular were phenomenal.

If you are hosting an event at or near the Rancho Santa Fe area and looking for catering service, definitely give Something Homemade a try!
